Why dense cargo belongs in a 20ft
Bagged cement, fertilizer, sugar, rice, resin and minerals usually weigh 1,000–1,500 kg per m³, well above the break-even density of a 20ft container (about 851 kg/m³). The container runs out of payload with 29% of its space still empty, so a bigger container adds cost without adding cargo. Two 20ft containers carry about twice the weight of one 40ft.

Maximum truck weights differ by country and road type, and some ports and railways add their own limits. Ask your forwarder for the realistic maximum cargo weight on your route before selling a “full container” of bagged goods.
Loading bagged cargo
- Palletized bags load faster and are easier to count; floor-loaded bags use space better. For weight-limited cargo, space doesn't matter, so pallets often make sense.
- Spread the weight evenly along the whole floor, even when the container isn't full.
- Use kraft paper or liners to protect bags from the container floor and walls.
