How the pallet calculator works
The pallet footprint and your maximum load height form a box, and the calculator fills that box with cartons using the same 3D engine as our container load calculator. It tries every allowed carton orientation and combination of rows, keeps cartons fully on the pallet (no overhang), and stops at the weight limit if you set one.
Typical pallet loads
- US pallet (48 × 40 in): common maximum heights are 48–72 in including the pallet; LTL carriers often price by the full pallet footprint and height.
- Euro pallet (1200 × 800 mm): cartons of 600 × 400 mm or 400 × 300 mm divide it exactly, which is why many European retailers use them.
- Containers: to double-stack pallets in a container, keep each loaded pallet under about 114 cm (standard) or 129 cm (high cube). See pallets in a 40ft container.
Frequently asked questions
How many boxes fit on a pallet?
It depends on the box size and the maximum load height. For example, a Euro pallet (120 × 80 cm) loaded to 1.5 m holds 12 boxes of 60 × 40 × 40 cm: 4 per layer and 3 layers. Enter your own carton size above for an exact answer.
How high can a pallet be stacked?
Many warehouses and carriers allow 1.5–1.8 m (60–72 in) including the pallet. For double stacking in a container, each pallet must be lower than half the door height: about 114 cm in standard containers and 129 cm in high cubes.
Does the calculator allow overhang?
No. Cartons are kept fully on the pallet, because overhang weakens the cartons and makes the pallet take more space in a container or truck.
What is the standard pallet size?
In the US it is 48 × 40 in (1219 × 1016 mm). In Europe it is the Euro pallet, 1200 × 800 mm. See standard pallet sizes.
